Canaries for mini hippies!

2014
Hi! Coming back from Canary Islands (Tenerife, La Palma et La Gomera), I would like to let you discover with us these wonderful places! We appreciated the wildness of this Islands, the local people kindness and the various travelers that we met..and of course volcanos! Same concept for the full blog: suggested venues are the very cheap ones but always very cosy ones of course! Bizzz

Bonjour,

General Information for ecolo travellers:
Canaria Islands are very wild but they do not have any particular risk.
My fear for volcanos disappeared when I jumped on it!
Travelling by buses is very convenient and safe. Inhabitants are adorable and tourists (out of massive hostel zones) are roots people looking for nature ans serenity. Just perfect! We discovered Tenerife, La Gomera and La Palma. The two lasts being my favorites!

Tenerife (3 days):
- El Teide: On this Island we loved to climb El Teide (picture below). This is a still hot incredible Volcano, very high and dominating the ocean. So go on it!! negative point, the telepheric to the top is clearly not cheap..
- Puerto de la Cruz: We as well appreciated the touristic sea side city of Puerto de la Cruz but only for one or two days.
We slept in an AirBnB flat for very cheap in the Orotava city. Its a bit cold compared to Puerto de la Cruz but cheaper and easy to reach from the airport and for the bus to El Teide.
- To avoid: Los Cristianos and playa "Las americanos".

Tenerife (3 jours):

El Teide: You don't need snow shoes! They cleaned the path, ouf :=)

La Palma (1 week):
An astonishing island: wild and with very few tourists.

Canaries, including La Palma, are the paradise of diversity. Here is an example of a non common beach made of basaltic rocks rather than sand and decorated with natural swimming pool rich in minerals. This is at the extremity of Palma Island beside San Antonio volcano!

1-day excursion trip:
From the San Antonio Museum (very nice for Volcano beginners) take the path to the Salinas de Fuencaliente (or el Faro). Here you can visit Salinas (salinasdefuencaliente.es/) and take a refreshment in the bar. Then if you follow the car road which is up to the lighthouse (right side when you look in the ocean direction, be careful its not very pedestrians friendly! You can walk 400m to Playa NUEVA (Echentive, Malpique). There is a small parking and wooden stairs to the beach. To come back you can take the bus at the Faro (time schedule at the Information center of Fuencaliente at the entrance of the village)

Cheap but confortable pension: (we didn't booked it in advance and it was ok).

Pension confortable and cheap:

Some advices: - Bedrooms are available for public only during scolar holidays - Ask for Batiment D bedroom (the others doesnt have kitchen and bathroom in the room) - Come by car (it will be more convinent with a car, but feasible with public transport, it's really outside of the city, and public transports in Marseilles are not so great) - Take the opportunity to visit Cassis.
